Globally, children are thought of as cute, innocent, joyous creatures. However, we know that there are many children who, for a myriad of reasons, have been forced to face a reality that is stark and difficult although not without some childhood pleasure. Art Magnet, a non-profit organization sponsored by the New York Foundation of the Arts, will be hosting a photography exhibit to benefit the children of Artists For Charity (http://artistsforcharity.org/). AFC is an orphanage located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is home to children who are orphans and HIV positive. The proceeds from the sale of the exhibit's photos will go to provide the children with educational and other types of equipment. Several of the children are artists. We also hope to sponsor a few of these individuals to New York for summer art classes in 2011 or 2012.
